Scope and content

Text by Canon Hayes decrying the negative effects of the political party system on democracy, particularly the organisation of party branches at the local level, which 'have the effect of dividing the people at large into rival camps concerned more for the interest of their particular parties than for the common interests which they share.' He states that Ireland since independence is currently intensifying the way of life established under English rule, and that 'The flight from the countrysides is fast approaching the state of a virulent national disease.'
