Original site reports for confirmed and potential coastal promontory sites in counties Sligo, Mayo, Galway, and Clare compiled by Markus Casey between 1984 and 1986. Records for each county are organised by numbers given to each site by Casey and are cross-referenced with checklists and key maps at the beginning of each county-level file. Each site is identified by a sheet listing its townland, parish, barony, and county alongside its geographic coordinates (Ordnance Survey map sheet reference, National Grid Reference, and Ordnance Survey 6-inch coordinates) and a text description of the site written by Casey. Where available, Casey has also included the date the site was visited, the name of the landowner if known, small sketches and diagrams of the site, references to/photocopies of previous written publications describing the site, and aerial photographs of the site mounted to paper backing. Information from these documents was used by Casey to compile his 2001-2003 reports on promontory forts for the Heritage Council, and by Casey's associates following his death, resulting in some pages being marked with corresponding notes.
