Scope and content
Typed copy of a speech delivered by Canon Hayes at University College Cork, 28 April 1932, on the benefits of ruralisation and the 'social parasitism and physical degeneration of badly housed humanity, which everywhere accompanies the progress of industrialisation.' He notes that Irish emigrants that left because of lack of access to the land '[do] not cultivate the rolling plains but [are] housed in the narrow streets of the great industrial estate.' He suggests creating an organisation in Ireland similar to the Boerenbond in Belgium to make Ireland self-sufficient. Text includes annotations and corrections. The bottom left corners of the pages have been eaten away, including small portions of text. The first four pages of the text, with differing annotations from the main text, are copied and attached to the front.
