Scope and content
The Redington Papers in this collection appear to have come into the possession of William Wilson Lynch in the early 1930s after the death of his mother and aunts. His brother Thomas Wilson Lynch sold Kilcornan House in 1933. Family correspondence is the main component of this subgroup, giving details of family achievements and events, especially the deaths of family members. A memoir of Sir Thomas N Redington's gives information about the early generations of the family and of the compatible coexistence between Catholic and Protestant in Co. Galway in the early 1820s. Diaries of his son Christopher T. Redington give a glimpse of student life at Oxford University in the late 1860s. A section of miscellaneous items includes copies of letters Sir Thomas N Redington wrote on the secular power of the Pope, newspapers cuttings, music scores, photographs, and drawings. The first section contains a diverse group of items found in a folder similar to that containing the papers relating to the Clare Hunt Balls. These may be papers appertaining to Mary T. Redington.
