Scope and content
One volume, seven ring binders and two expanding folders containing accounts of goods and services provided to An Taibhdhearc, mainly by Galway businesses. Six binders and one folder contain accounts numbered for the purposes of claiming VAT. The material includes invoices, statements, receipts, credit notes, and delivery notes relating to the purchase of office supplies, prints, photos, brochures, and materials for props such as paint and masking tape, and to the provision of such items as lighting, advertising, art work and cleaning. The accounts were arranged in reverse chronological order within each binder and numbered. Most statements record the date of payment and the cheque number. Some statements are stamped with appeals for payment. In some binders, the invoices were arranged in 2 monthly groupings, but this is not so evident in the later accounts. The main providers in the 1970s were The Connacht Tribune, Hynes Ltd, O'Beirn's Pharmacy, Essential Cleaning Services, O'Gormans Ltd, Fahy Contractors, Thomas McDonagh, Galway Advertiser, Nilands, ICE (photocopying), Bourke Strand Electric Ltd, Connacht Mineral Water Co, Galway Printing Co Ltd, John Raftery and Sons Ltd (hardware), Tommy Forde (paint and wallpaper), Bill Madden (florist), and Kelly Office Supplies, Cantrell and Cochrane, McCullough Pigott Ltd, T O'Higgins and Co, and Ray Shanley, photographer. By the 1980s, suppliers in Galway included Western Rent a Van, Corbett and Sons Ltd, Clódóirí Lurgan Teo, Canavans Ltd, Thomas McDonogh and Sons Ltd, Silke and Sons Ltd, Jim Culligan, C T Electric Ltd, John Carr and sons Ltd, Amárach Teo, Connacht Wholesale Company Ltd, P Powell and Sons, and photographer Tadhg Keady. The Dublin suppliers included Gestetner Ltd, Lighting Dimensions and Rentokil. Other accounts cover such items as Oliver Freaney and Co's bill for the preparation of the Taibhdhearc's accounts for the year ending 31 December 1983 and wine was bought from Woodford Bourne. Some statements record the name of the play to which the expense relates, for example 'Goodies' were bought from Griffin's Bakery during the production of "Dry Rot" in October 1981, and paid for on 30 January 1982.
