              Material in this subsubsubseries relates to Mary Robinson’s work in the area of family planning legislation and efforts to have new legislation replace the Family Planning Act 1979, deemed too restrictive. It includes material relating to the 8th amendment, which was inserted in the Irish constitution following a referendum in September 1983 and which by giving the unborn child equal rights to that of the mother, effectively prohibited abortion. It includes correspondence, reports, draft Bills and articles.
