Peter Mandelson, M.P., Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and to John O'Donoghue, T.D., from De Chastelain, Nieminen and Sens, updating on recent inspection of IRA weapons dumps by President Martti Ahtisaari and Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa. Includes attached report from both inspectors to the Commission on their inspection of said IRA arms dumps, concluding that they viewed a substantial amount of weapons and explosives but are satisfied that all are securely stored, cannot be accessed without detection and represents "a genuine effort by the IRA to advance the Peace Process." Hon. John Reid and to John O'Donoghue T.D., updating with three points including that "IRA representatives proposed a method for putting IRA arms completely and verifiably beyond use" (6 Aug 2001).
Signed letter from Rt. Hon David Trimble M.P., MLA, to Rt. Hon Tony Blair M.P. Prime Minister, 10 Downing Street and to Bertie Ahern, Taoiseach, Dublin, indicating that after a meeting with the three commissioners of the IICD, Trimble advises that the public will expect a clear update detailing IRA agreement and plans on putting weapons beyond use but as no update has yet come, Trimble fears a negative update from the Commission will be met badly by the public.
