Including an address to the Rotary Club by Mr Howell Griffiths calling the Commission, ‘mere window dressing’ by the government; statement by the Minister of Community Relations (Mr. W Basil McIvor) praising his work and regretting his decision to resign, commenting that he does not accept that there is a ‘lack of urgency’ on the part of the government; letter from Brian [Faulkner], Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, regretting his decision to resign and paying tribute to his work, “I very much hope that you will be able, in the future, to make a renewed contribution to the public life and administration of Northern Ireland” (10 Feb 1972); Copy letter from Maurice Hayes to Lord Grey de Naunton, Governor of Northern Ireland, resigned as Chairman of the Community Relations Commission, pointing out the effect of present security policies, the failure of politicians of all sides to engage and the lack of urgency as the reasons for his resignation (8 Feb 1972); press cuttings on the resignation of Hywel Griffiths in April, who was director of projects and training in the Commission.
