M M O'Shaughnessy was the Chief Engineer of this railway, and the map shows a signed, sworn affidavit by both him, and by Louis B. Parrot, President of the Iron Mountain Railway. The map was surveyed by M M O'Shaughnessy, CE. Drawn at a scale of 1,000 feet to 1 inch. The scale of the profile in the map is 100 feet to 1 inch (vertical), and 2,000 feet to 1 inch (horizontal).

The letters concern business dealings and refer to Mr Hill and Dr O H Simons on the subject of exploiting the Balaklaia claim. The final letter, dated 7 Apr 1897 summarises the terms and rates they negotiated, and gives his opinion about Dr Simons as a businessman.
Four handwritten letters to M M O'Shaughnessy from W F Stafford of Stafford and Stafford Law Offices. The letters discuss attempts to meet [Haefler] and Mr Winston, and their offer to O'Shaughnessy of assets in lieu of payment, because "mining was at present in a bad way". Subsequent correspondence updates O'Shaughnessy on the arrival of deeds for these assets.
