Coloured inks and paper map of the lands of Thomas O'Conor Donelan held by James Sheehan in the townland of Cuilmore bear Peterswell, containing 53a. 2r. 18p. It gives the sub-tenants as Lyons, Rev. Grealy, Fenaghty and Quin. It also shows houses as well as the Post Office, barrack and school in Peterswell, as well as the newly constructed drain.

Account book containing list of expenses etc. paid by [Dermott O'Conor Donelan] for his son William since he was bound, including expenses for classes etc., as well as payments to Dr. Flood.

Includes MS letter from Bruce Arnold to John McGahern (7 May 1990) with detailed comments on McGahern's novel [likely "Amongst Women]. Also a Christmas card from Bruce and Mavis Arnold, "Kenta trip, Nov 2002, with attached photograph of donkeys outside a hut in Kenya. (Nov 2002).

MS letters from Pam Brighton to John McGahern, one seeking McGahern's opinion regarding the proposal by Patricia Cobey to adapt his story 'Parachute' for BBC Radio 4. Second letter, on BBC Radio headed paper sends comments on the story "The Country Funeral" by McGahern.

Letter from Neil Belton, Editor at Faber and Faber Publishers, London, to John McGahern, responding to McGahern's note "Your note means more to me than I can say" and offers comments on his work at Faber and previous publishing work. Also a Faber slip sending an unnamed book to McGahern. Email from Belton with detailed comments and suggested edits for "Memoir". (2004).

Letter from Brother Bede Minehan (Provincial) (20 Dec 1992) to McGahern, sending congratulations McGahern on winning the G.P.A. literary award. "I write to you as a past-pupil of the Presentation Brothers in Carrick-on-Shannon to say how proud we are of your literary achievements"
Also a letter from Brother Athanasius to McGahern (24 June 2002) "No doubt you do not remember me. Many years ago (in the 30s) I often carried you on my shoulders . . . in later years I taught with your sister in Presentation College, Reading".
File also includes a stamped envelope, postmarked from Bethnal Green, London, addressed to "Miss M. Green, 1 Rue Christine, Paris." 20 March 1970. The hand is very like John McGahern's but item is possibly misfiled with these other letters. Original file order retained.

MS letter from poet Moya Cannon to John McGahern, sending comments on having read McGahern's "Memoir" and also asking follow up question from when John read in Galway and regarding the use of the word "whooshin". Cannon adds comments on ethnicity and use of the word in Irish history. She also encloses comments on essayist John Berger. Included in a TS poem by Cannon, signed and sent to McGahern.
Also a card written in thanks to McGahern for his time in speaking with Cannon's students.
