Small file relating to the Humboldt and Trinity Toll Road Company, based in Eureka California. Letters from J P Monroe, Secretary of the company to M M O'Shaughnessy asking him to write an article on the subject of 'Wagon roads needed for railroad communication in Humboldt'. Their proposed toll road has been defeated in several elections, with farmers vehemently opposed. The correspondence argues that building wagon roads in the county will help in getting a railroad. Enclosures include ephemera for the vote, a press cutting of a letter by Monroe to an unspecified paper.
