Van den Bosch believes that onion farming can be further developed in Wexford as his own onion business is growing. He notes that when his potatoes are sold at market in Dublin rather than via merchants, the farmers he employs make £2-£5 per week more ('the merchants always kept the farmers in a state of fear').
