Scope and content

The second part of this collection is mainly comprised of legal documents and supporting financial papers relating to the payment of estate and succession duties following the deaths of Denis Lord Dunsandle in 1893 and of his two sons William Daly in 1911 and Denis St George Daly in 1942. These papers include an amount of material concerning the stocks and shares, which represented much of the Daly Trust property by the 1920s. In an effort to save as much as possible on death duties Denis St George Daly transferred various stocks and shares to his son Denis Bowes Daly in 1927 and 1932.

Some of the 19th century papers included here relate to the Mathews’ Trusts [Co Tipperary property] 1877, the settlement of Dunsandle demesne in 1886, the Stranwix charity 1888 and a mortgage to Henrietta Daly in the mid-1890s. A number of conveyances from both the 19th and 20th centuries concern lands in Co Galway, such as plots in Kilconnell, lands at Esker and at Brackloon, Attimonmore South and Laragh.

There was no apparent order on these records so they have been arranged in chronological order under headings, which in general reflect the subject matter of most of the papers. The name of the firm of solicitors representing the Daly family has also been inserted in capital letters.
