Material in this subsubsubseries relates to the six Seanad Éireann election campaigns from 1969 to 1987 and is arranged chronologically. It includes correspondence, election addresses, flyers, electoral maps, election tallies and other ephemera.
Material in this section is divided into three files covering the 1973 and 1977 Seanad Éireann [Irish Senate] elections (P143/2/2/1/1/2/1-2), and the Bill "7th Amendment of the Constitution (Election of members of Seanad Eireann by Institutions of Higher Education) Bill 1979" (P143/2/2/1/1/2/3). Mary Robinson ran successfully for both as an independent candidate in 1973, becoming a member of Labour in 1976 before the end of that term, and as a candidate for the Labour party in 1977.
Material in this section is further divided chronologically into seven files, the first five covering Seanad Éireann [Irish Senate] elections in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1987. They also include material relating to the general elections prior to Seanad elections, including Labour party colleagues looking for support from Mary Robinson (MR). MR ran successfully as a Labour candidate in all but the final election in 1987, when she successfully ran as an independent candidate following her resignation from the Labour party in November 1985.
The sixth file consists of a Dáil Constituency Commission report (1988) and draft and material in the final file relates to the 1989 Seanad Éireann election and includes MR's statement on why she had decided not to run, and letters of congratulations and thanks on a 20-year career as a Senator.
