Letter Book for Galway Urban District Council, contains copies of correspondence and copies of other material relating to the Urban District Council, including reports from committees, statements of accounts and the minutes of council meetings. Many entries are not dated however they appear to be in chronological order. The volume is paginated pp1-994, only one side of each leaf is paginated. Page 5 includes a statement of loans for the Galway Harbour Commissioners. Page 68 contains a statement of rents received from houses on Bowling Green for the years 1904 and 1909. The amount borrowed for the housing scheme was £1060 for a term of 50 years. Page 424 contains a statement of outstanding loans for public health and other acts. Each entry contains the following fields 'purpose', 'amount of loan', 'date', 'no. of years', 'principal paid off.', 'principal outstanding' and 'rate of interest'. Entries include 'Claddagh Bridge' £2000, 1888... And Auxiliary Engine £900, 1893'. Page 456 includes a plan to purchase Grattan's Estate in the Claddagh, according to the plan the estate had 80 houses built on it and goes on to say 'That number of houses required would be about 150. Which might be provided as follows: 100 houses £140 each - £14000, 50 houses £100 each £5000.' Pages 924-994 contain copies of typescript minutes of meetings of the Galway Urban District Council. According to entry dated 4 May 1922 on page 924 'A vigilance committee was appointed to draw up a report with regard to the supervision of certain literature which is being circulated in the district.' According to entry on page 928 'Mr. F. Flanerty asked if the action of parties who done damage at Eyre Square and removed the statue of Lord Dunkellin was to be permitted to go unpunished. Decided to consult the Council's solicitors and instruct them to take proceedings to have the parties punished.' According to entry dated 22 September 1922 which appears on page 955 'A letter was read from Dail Eireann, stating that the Minister for Local Government was of the opinion that sanction should have been obtained before expenditure had been incurred in connection with the purchase of the large hanger which is being erected at Salthill.' According to entry dated 5 October 1922 which appears on page 964 'It was decided to draw the attention of the Inspector, Civic Guard, to the number of shooting galleries which are allowed to do business at Eyre Square, and ask him, if possible, to effect the removal of these parties. Page 990 includes a report relating to electricity supplies in the city, the report relates to the construction of a power plant, the existing plant having been 'destroyed by fire about the 17th of March this year and is not yet entirely reconstructed.'

Deed of renewal of lease . "Edward Eyre of Church Row, St. Pancrass County of Middlesex Kingdom of Great Britain Esquire Great Grandson and Heir at Law of Edward Eyre of the Town of Galway deceased" to Patrick Martin of Eyrecourt, County Galway. Recites a lease dated 20 April 1738 between Edward Eyre of Galway and Edward Eyre of Cork, merchant, "who formerly served Alexander Knapp" of 'the small brick House which was then building on the right hand of the way leading from the Quay of Galway ... to the Dock being twenty four feet in the front and adjoining the open Arch at the Quay and the Cantoon and Hearing with the slip leading to the River and also the large Brick House forty feet in front standing on the then New Ground to the Marsh on the left hand way leading the said Dock and the Ground backward to the Common Sewer being Six Score feet in depth and Mearing with the then New Cross Street and the Ground extending from the Corner of the said Cross Street to the Cantoon near the said Quay containing Six Score and four feet in front mearing on the inner Wall of the then new way leading to said Dock with one hundred and twenty feet backwards along the Town Wall on one side and along said New Cross Street on the other side with full liberty to him and his Undertenants on said Premises to Erect Palisades to each front of any House or Houses three feet in depth and no more except the fronts near said Open Arch the said two then New Houses being to be finished by the said Edward Eyre of Galway', for a yearly rent of £1. Other property included are three small brick houses formerly occupied by Margaret McLoughlin, Widow, and Alexander Lynch leading from the quay to the docks, as well as a slip-way into the river. Also includes the warehouse, known as the large Brickhouse, formerly in the possession of James Browne fitzValentine, merchant.

Copy of legal brief containing queries to James O'Hara, Recorder of the Town of Galway, in relation to the taking of large quantities of sand for the building of the new jail by Mr Richard Fahy, Architect, from Fair Hill, the property currently occupied by Philip Mollowney. The Recorder replies that Fahy is entitled to do this as long as it does not cause erosion.

Copy of indenture of sheriff's sale made by Michael Dillon and Charles O'Hara to Nicholas Birmingham of Galway, late of Barbersfort, County Galway, of the property formerly held by Dominick Martin by lease, and whose interest was bought out by Nicholas Birmingham for £810. The property consists of the grounds where the old fortifications and magazines stood, along with the new markets and buildings now on the property.

Copy of opinion on the case of Robert Hedges Eyre as to lands in the county and the town of Galway given by Sergeant Ball and the Attorney General. The property in question includes the 31 acres known as Kirwans Parks, and castles and sheds held on the Parade, the March and William's Garden all held of the Corporation. Includes area known as the Mud Dock, and the Long Walk leading out from the Spanish Arch around to it. It recites a lease of Redolphus Kent to Andrew French of 1712.
