BRAC, a national private development organisation, was established in 1972 as a relief committee after the Liberation War in 1971 and has evolved into a large and multifaceted development organisation with the twin objectives of alleviation of poverty and empowerment of the poor, especially women.

[Archivist's note BRAC USA also agreed to collaborate with the Mary Robinson Foundation - Climate Justice (MRFCJ). MR was careful to separate her two roles as advisor to BRAC USA and as President of MRFCJ. For more on MRFCJ see P143/8 ].

Report authored by Martina McCarthy of GeoArc Ltd. for Kenneth McLeod. GeoArc was commissioned to survey a site adjacent to Brackloon Castle, Clonfert, County Galway. McLeod, the owner of the castle, requested a geophysical investigation in advance of any restoration works on the castle. A number of magnetic anomalies found on the site immediately to the east of the castle could not be conclusively attributed to an archaeological source, and no clear evidence of structural remains could be outlined, but this could also be a result of plough damage (26pp). Attached are two letters from McLeod to Markus Casey; one enclosing a map of the location (3 April 2002; 2pp) and another accompanying the attached report (11 April 2002, 1p).
