Letter from Isadore Blake, Oldhead [near Westport, Co. Mayo to Thomas Ormsby of Ballinamore, Co. Mayo, largely concerning money matters. "... I have since I came to the country settled with my son Maurice for a large sum of money, due to me on the lands settled on him on his marriage, since that time and to oblige him, have taken his 3 notes [in] my favour ... I heard it is sometimes agreeable to you to lay out money, if convenient to you to accommodate with the whole [£1336[ or any of said securities ... I will be extremely obliged to you ... as I find it almost impossible to call in my rents at present.

In which he writes "My brother William will deliver this to you, who goes down to Gallen, to account for the road of which he is overseer ... I should have written to you on the decease of my grandfather but as his last request was to be buried in the most private manner, I did not wish to give you the trouble of so long a drive and in such bad weather. I am left sole executor and residuary legatee. My mother guardian with me to my brother and sisters under age and my uncle Lucan and George Vesey trustees for the remaindership ...

Letter from Thomas Ormsby (1807-1836), Dublin, grandson, to Thomas Ormsby of Ballinamore, Co. Mayo. In which he writes "... I am happy to tell you that my Papa is a great deal better and able to go out. I was sorry to hear that my Uncle Peter is complaining of the rheumatis. My Papa is not quite certain whether he will put me to Mr. Coughlans or Mr Hutton's school on Summer Hill. I saw my Aunt Ruttledge and Miss Bloomfield they are well, My cousin Ormsby Phibbs came to town on Friday to the examinations and all friends in Sligo are well. There is not a word of news here ..."
