Also details comments by Bill Smith to Dr. Hayes on the draft study, including detailed comments and a more general one commenting that it doesn’t reflect the current situation so much.
Paper entitled “Memorandum on Northern Ireland”, possibly part of the Catholic Institute for International Relations submission. He notes the differences between the Provisional IRA and the Official IRA, as well as the operation of loyalist groups. It notes the Roman Catholic hierarchy’s opposition to these groups, and states that it is appropriate to ask those politicians who ask for an end to internment to provide an alternative. It also states that the policing and politics cannot be separate.
