Letter from Hermann Schussler, Chief Engineer at Spring Valley Water Works to the Honorable H P Baldwin, President of the H C & S Co. (Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company) (22 Jun 1899). The letter addresses a proposal by the recipient of a new ditch, pipe and tunnel line to convey water from the Kailua stream. The author makes suggestions relating to the height of the new proposed ditch, and the diameter of the pipe lines. The author outlines advantages of having two windward ditches, and outlines financial savings to be gained in no longer needing to pump water.

List of materials needed for Hanapepe Ditch, (built in 1890). This document is dated 14 Jul 1901. The list is titled 'Manager's Office H S Co'.

Letter from O'Shaughnessy to J E Pope (8 May 1902) providing instructions for a large land survey in Placer County, including compiling all descriptions of deeds and surveys from the Land Office, triangulating all fences, buildings, tunnels and shafts in the area to be surveyed, noting work on adjacent properties, all sites for future tunnels, and a list of addresses for adjacent land owners.

Letter from O'Shaughnessy to Miners' & Smelters' Supply Company (8 May 1902) on the subject of their drills, and the possibility of using them in his work to convey water along the side of a canyon in Hawaii. (May relate to report in above paragraph, which would date that as after May 1902).

Offers 2 propositions in response to O'Shaughnessy's query about water power. A 36" Pelton wheel, with specifications on the heights and volumes involved, and the other proposition involves the use of 2 wheels.

(This file includes an extra letter from 001 (mentioned in that description). An undated sheet gives a list of names (possibly those shortlisted for positions).

This file also includes a letter to O'Shaughnessy from R W Weldon (18 Dec 1901), giving suggestions on "power and a scarcity of fuel". He outlines a suggestion to replace the use of gasoline with steam, and encloses a sketch of what he has in mind.

Letter to O'Shaughnessy from J Geo Leyner (1 May 1902) referring to an enclosed descriptive catalogue of compressors and drills (not included in archive).
