Files relating to the research, writing, drafting, and publication of novel for children, Bugsey Goes to Cork, written by Carolyn Swift and published by Poolbeg Press.

File 1 includes research notes and press cuttings of news stories used by Carolyn Swift in writing her novel. The stories relate to environmental issues in Co. Cork, such as an asbestos factory, pharmaceutical and chemical plants proposed to be built in Cork by multinational companies in the late 1980s; flyers and pamphlets about local history in parts of Co. Cork.

File 2 includes typescript draft of the novel with detailed manuscript annotation and edits by Swift throughout.

File 3 includes two typescript drafts of the novel, Bugsy Goes To Cork, with some notes and annotation by Swift.

File 4 includes letters between Carolyn Swift and publisher of her novel, Poolbeg Press, Dublin. 1990 - 1992. Letters discuss the publication of the book, the reader reports who raised possible libel issues and issues relating to identifiable cases/people concerning environmental concerns in Co. Cork and at the site of an asbestos factory and proposed new chemical and pharmaceutical plants for Cork. Includes barrister's legal review of the risk of libel within the novel.
