Scope and content

File including records relating to peace talks in Northern Ireland from 1992 to 1998. The former talks in 1992 were what became known as the Brooke/Mayhew talks in Northern Ireland in 1991/92, chaired by Sir Ninian Stephen. They were the first negotiations to divide into three strands - relationships within Northern Ireland, between north and south, and between Britain and Ireland. The latter material relates to the Good Friday Agreement.

Includes unsigned typed text of letter to Sir Ninian Stephen, possibly by John Hume - referencing and quoting from SDLP comments, 6 July 1992; "Principles of a New Framework for Government - An Alliance Paper" 5 May 1992; "Fundamental Aspects of the Problem and Common Interests and Themes An Alliance Opening Statement to Strand 2" July 1992; "Strand 2 Opening Statement by Rev. Dr. Ian Paisley MP MEP on behalf of the Ulster Democratic Unionist Party; "DUP Paper on the Underlying Principles" 4 May 1992. Press release from Irish Government Information Service and attached report re/ "The Launching of an Initiative on Strategic Management in the Public Service by the Taoiseach, Mr. Albert Reynolds, T.D., 22 Feb 1994.
